About CiS
What is CiS? An system of software programs, plugins and databases that allows ecommerce companies and content providers to offer voice, audio and video links to consumers/endusers at remote locations across the internet most notably within search engine results.
What are the pieces of the CiS solution?
Domain manager software for ecommerce sites that allows the company to register relevant VoIP names, links, files and programs associated with specific web site addresses and subdomains.
CiS database that associates specific links and files with domain and subdomains per the instructions of the domain owner and can be accessed by third parties with the browser plug-in.
Browser plugins that allow consumers/end-users to communicate directly with websites with VoIP and audio/video (info)commercials through the CiS database.
Who wants CiS and why?
Ecommerce sites and content providers who want to communicate directly with potential consumers without distractions/diversions caused by Google-like PPC search engine ads.
Consumers who want a fast, easy way to reach ecommerce companies’ service representatives through VoIP, chat or IVR or quickly see relevant rich media advertising messages linked to specific items they are interested in (contextual/relevant).
Service providers who target large ecommerce companies with needs for rich media ad production, web site design, market research surveys, IVR software, call center services and voiceover.
Other Web2.0 product developers who want to use this distribution channel to offer similar products (web site evaluation, tagging)
What is the Business Model?
Key Objective: Gain acceptance from ecommerce companies and consumers for our system of software plugins and databases that allows one to talk to the other. Therefore basic core products (simple domain manager and browser plugins) should be free. This will reduce consumer resistance and forestall potential competition. This is the Craigslist approach.
Revenue Model: CiS revenues will consist of a) CPM banner advertising from service providers on pages aimed at ecommerce companies (e.g. Domain Manager download page) b) CPC Adsense-type advertising on content pages aimed at consumers (e.g. landing pages for RSS feeds) and c) customization consulting revenues from ecommerce sites (e.g., customizing RSS/podcast landing pages) and d) revenue override on products offered through our distribution channel.
Who is the competition?
No one is doing exactly what we are planning to do yet; however several companies are in the click-to-call business including Google and probably Skype. Other “edge” marketing ideas are floating around as well. None is as comprehensive as CiS. All seem to be more or less centralized/proto-monopolistic.
To forestall competition from larger players, we should embrace an interoperable, neutral policy that will (eventually) incorporate all VoIP systems (for click to call) and all streaming and RSS protocols (for content delivery). Creating an open “free” platform will encourage other developers to create add-ons to broaden and enhance CiS’ utility.
Who will be hurt or helped?
If CiS is widely accepted the losers could include major search engines with CPC contextual advertising programs (e.g. Yahoo, Google), click-to-talk companies with fee based models (e.g. Ingenio, Estara) and IM/VoIP providers promoting proprietary technology (Skype?).
The very largest ecommerce companies are now being squeezed by the search engines with contextual search ads, the loss of email as an effective marketing tool and the general difficulty in capturing consumer attention and interest. They should embrace this way to push consumers further down the marketing funnel. Cutting edge advertisers, agencies, producers and market research companies will also be happy.
Our Advantages:
Not dependent on a single technology or even medium – we create links to VoIP, audio and video messages. Potentially complemented with IVR and RSS technologies and techniques to bridge various VoIP protocols.
